The Olde English Bulldogge although capable of defending depending on the breeding line should be consider more of a companion and family dog. A bully who's devotion to the family most be admired. The History of the OEB, is one that should not be lost in the pages of the past. By the year 1971 the creator hired a Geneticist to developed a breed that resemble the old gladiator. This time the creator developed the breed for the times in which society was able to accept. The Character/ Temperament was not the same but the look and size came very close. The Olde English Bulldogge of today was a combination of 4 breeds. Bullmastiff, American Bulldog, English Bulldog, and APBT. All 4 through history contained the Old Bulldog gladiator in their closed gene pool. The bottom line is that there are other types and those types have used the original name (OEB). They are in truth Alternative Bulldogs. As most educated and breeders know that in order to establish a breed of dog 4 important facts most happen. 1. Founder event, 2. Isolation, 3. Inbreeding and 4. Artificial selection. The follow 1. Ancestry - all of the individuals descending from a particular founder group (and only from that group). 2. Purpose or Utility. 3. Typology - breed standards (whether written or unwritten) being used to describe and to recognize dogs of specific size, physical build, general appearance, shape of head, style of ears and tail, etc.
Take for instance my lines. I have a combination of DelMar, Valley View, Birchwood, and RicAli. Until I breed and isolate my line I will only have a half between 2 other lines and at best a first generation DelMar line. Just a bit of reality in this scribe.
